STUDENT RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS

Scholar Presentations Based on Research

The English major includes much research on theories of literature, culture, and writing, and students have opportunities to apply what they learn. All junior and senior English courses include research and writing projects. And the capstone theory course (EN490) culminates in a major research project that students present at the spring Arts & Humanities Symposium. Professor Comer oversees EN490, and Professor Harper oversees the symposium, which is orgainzed like a professional conference.

During the Spring 2011 symposiium, the following three English majors presented their research papers:

Emily Arnold
Disability in the Twelve Original Issues
of X-men

Miles Bynre
Disability in Miller’s Batman: The Dark
Knight Returns

Rebekah Stottlemyer
Disability in Wide Sargasso Sea

Research and Creative Communication Projects

Students produce several creative works in English courses. Click here to see the "silent film" that some of the students of the Advanced Writing class made. The assignment was to "communicate using no more than four written words." Kristi Jo Leaders, Jessica Meyer, Angela Santo, and Amy Von Deylen went one better by producing a film that communicated without any spoken words.
