AH 295: Screening Disability: A one credit pass/fail special topics course organized by Todd Comer and taught by Stacey Elsasser, Stefan Hall, Doug Kane, Catharine O'Connell, Matt Schultz, and Kristin Sorensen. The class will meet about six times during Spring 2009 on Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. to watch a film and then have one hour of discussion.

We will discuss how disabilities are represented in the films listed below. Why, for example, must Nemo have a broken fin? Is obesity a disability? Do definitions of mental illness change over time? Are autistic people really less communicative than "normal" people?

Matt Schultz on Let 'Em Have It  (Sam Wood, dir.)
Catharine O'Connell on Snow Cake  (Marc Evans, dir.)
Kristin Sorensen on Finding Nemo (Andrew Stanton, dir.)
Stacey Elsasser on Real Women Have Curves (Patricia Cardoso, dir.)
Doug Kane on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Milos Forman, dir.)
Stefan Hall on City of Lost Children (Jean-Pierre Jeunet, dir.)
